Description

A comforting casserole that layers seasoned ground beef, marinara, and melty mozzarella, topped with crispy tater tots for a pizza-flavored twist.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • Optional Toppings: pepperoni, olives, bell pepper, green onions, mushrooms


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned and the onion is soft, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the marinara, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine and simmer for a couple of minutes.
  4. Spread the beef and sauce mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheese over the beef.
  5. Arrange the tater tots in a single layer over the cheese and beef mixture. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of cheese on top of the tots.
  6. Bake the casserole for 25-30 minutes until the tots are golden and crispy, and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. If desired, add optional toppings and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, swap half the mozzarella for provolone or cheddar. Can be made gluten-free by checking labels on tater tots and marinara.
